The workshop on Design of distillation column using Excel, conducted by Dr. Udhay Bhaskar Reddy Ragula deserves our heartfelt appreciation. The workshop provided hands-on experience on estimation of equilibrium data from fundamental thermodynamic data (vapor pressure and relative volatility calculations), estimation of feed quality (such as subcooled liquid, saturated liquid, saturated vapor, liquid at its boiling point and superheated vapor) from the feed temperature, feed pressure and feed mole fraction, calculation of minimum and operating reflux ratio for rectification and stripping section of the distillation column and the total number of trays that are required for distillation column for the required separation, which were all performed using Microsoft excel.
